Robert E. Hartsock

Robert E. 'Bob' Hartsock, 83, of Elkville, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his residence.

Bob had worked for 21 years for the Illinois State Police as Chief Clerk. He had also worked as a mine supervisor for the Amax Coal Company Leahy Mines for 15 years. He was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and had served for 14 years in the Army and Army Reserve. He was a member of the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church at Hallidayboro and had been a Lay Preacher for several years. Bob loved Christ and the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Masons. He loved to garden and enjoyed fishing.

He was born April 4, 1930 at Elkville, Ill., the son of Robert and Gertrude Imogene (Spangler) Hartsock.

He married Sarah Ann Halstead on Aug. 18, 1950 at Hallidayboro, Ill. at his brother, Paul's house.

He is survived by his wife of Elkville, five children - John R. Hartsock and wife Linda of Pinckneyville, Darla Lynch and husband Tim of Dowell, Stephen Hartsock and wife Carol of Du Quoin, Lucy Hartsock-Corder of Carterville and Paul Hartsock and wife Melissa of Herrin, nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren and his beloved Dachshund dog, Pete.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Paul Hartsock, one grandson - Adam Hartsock and stepfather - John Beard.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church in Hallidayboro with Pastor Steve Utley officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.

Burial will be in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
