Chester First Club to meet
CHESTER - The Chester First Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at Jodi's Farm House Café and Bakery.
The Chester First Club is a combined effort of the Chester Chamber of Commerce and River City Renewal to support and show appreciation for the locally owned and small retail and dining businesses in Chester.
There will not be an agenda, just an opportunity to meet with others, enjoy lunch, and support a local establishment. If you are unable to attend the event that day, we would ask you to visit and eat there sometime soon and offer thanks to them for being "in business" here in Chester.
Everyone is welcome, bring a friend, spouse or co-worker. You do not have to be a chamber or RCR member to join the group.
The Chester First Club meets the fourth Thursday of each month at a different location.
School newspaper goes digital
CHESTER - The Chester High School Sting newspaper has gone online with a new digital version.
The online edition launched Sept. 7 at chssting.com. In addition to news articles, the online site also features video clips.
Alexis Alvarez, Sting editor, said the digital site allows the paper to post news more promptly rather than the previous print edition. Students plan to add other online platforms such as Facebook and Twitter for the site.
The Sting received an Illinois Press Foundation (IPF) mini-grant to fund a digitized version of the school paper.
The $1,050 grant covers set up costs and fees for two years to use the SNOSite program to produce an online paper. The website is located at chssting.com and also appears on the school website. The Sting has received previous IPF grants to fund a camera and computer.
The IPF awarded $20,895 in grants. The IPF is the charitable arm of the Illinois Press Association.</group><group id="23A6008E-410F-4A4F-B62A-B367FBE43463" type="seoLabels">
