Lloyd E. Cunningham

Lloyd E. Cunningham, age 100, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at 5:23 p.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, Ill.

Lloyd was born on Jan. 17, 1913 in Jacksonville, Ill., a son to James Edward and Elizabeth Jeanette (Thompson) Cunningham. On Aug. 29, 1937, he married Ruby Fannin in Pinckneyville, Ill. and she preceded him in death after over 74 years of marriage on March 25, 2012. Lloyd obtained a Bachelors Degree in Education from Illinois State Normal University and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Illinois with a major in chemistry and a minor in education. During his senior year at the former he was a chemist for the Bloomington-Normal Sanitary District and also attended the University of Wisconsin one summer.

Lloyd was a high school teacher of science, mathematics and music at Pinckneyville Community High School, Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill. and Highland Park High School. He was band director at Pinckneyville Community High School for two years. More than 35 years of his working career was spent as a research chemist for United States Gypsum Company. He was also a chemist for Armour and Company for two years.

Lloyd was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. where he served as an elder and was the financial secretary for 13 years. Lloyd was a member of the Pinckneyville Senior Citizen Club and served as their treasurer for 31 years. He was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Perry County Historical Society. In the past he had served as both secretary and chairman of the board of directors of the Perry County Gold Plate Program. His hobbies include music, photography, travel and working around his home.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Cunningham of Boston, Mass. and Thomas Cunningham of Austin, Tex.; one daughter, Janet (Wallace "Tony") Burnette of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; and two brothers, Virgil and William Cunningham and their wives.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Charles Walden officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Friends may call at the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church, Pinckneyville, Ill.
