Maria Eaton
Maria Eaton, age 88, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at her daughter's home.
Maria was born on June 14, 1925 in Du Quoin, Ill., a daughter to Rocco and Josephine (Graft) Polito. She was the first-born American citizen in her family. On June 4, 1948, she married Robert Eaton at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death in December of 1981. She had worked as the secretary at St. Bruno Catholic School, Pinckneyville, Ill. for over 20 years. Maria was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill., the Catholic Daughters of America, Beta Sigma Phi, Ill. Alpha Tau Masters, First Thursday Bridge Club, Garden Club and was involved with the American Cancer Society. She was an avid reader, relished the role of a caregiver, had endless patience and cherished and adored her family and friends.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert Eaton of Du Quoin, Ill. and John (Nancy) Eaton of Plano, Tex.; her daughter, Patricia (Don) Hoffman of Du Quoin, Ill.; her daughter-in-law, Anna Eaton of Flower Mound, Tex.; her sister, Catherine (Bill) Stewart of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Phillip Eaton of Colo., Matthew Eaton of Tex., Jarred (Kim) Eaton of Tex., Ben (Kellie) Hoffman of Penn., Trevor Hoffman of Tenn., Lauren Rachel Eaton of Tex., Karson Hoffman of Ill., Maria Katherine Hoffman of Ill., Sarah Nadine Eaton of Tex. and Claire Marie Eaton of Tex.; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew, Billy Stewart; and two nieces, Cindy Struthers and Karen Stewart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Eaton; two grandsons in infancy, Rocco Eaton and Cory Eaton and a nephew, David Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Oganda officiating. Interment will be in Tamaroa Cemetery, Tamaroa, Ill.
Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
