Du Quoin to Rebuild Washington St. Water Line at Cost of $683,085

The Du Quoin City Council Monday accepted a low bid of $683,085 from Red Dot Construction Co. of Chester, Ill. to build a new water line beneath South Washington Street from East Main to Grant Way. The line replaces an aging turn-of-the century water main that serves much of the near south side of Du Quoin.

The bid is over $80,000 higher than the estimate of engineer J.T. Blankinship of Murphysboro, but was deemed acceptable. Other bidders included Korte Construction ($769,444) and Harr Plumbing, Inc. ($767.499).
