Melvin E. Smith
Melvin E. Smith, age 72, of Willisville, Ill., passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 in SSM St. Clare Health Center, Fenton, Mo.
Melvin was born on April 2, 1940 in Cutler, Ill., a son to Glen Lavern and Inez (Zoller) Smith. On Aug. 20, 1965, he married Juanita Reed in East St. Louis, Ill. and she survives. Melvin was of the Baptist faith and retired from World Color Press in Sparta, Ill. where he worked in the bindery. He enjoyed working on bicycles, collecting knives and fishing. Melvin dearly loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Juanita Smith of Willisville, Ill. two sons, Glen E. (Bobbie) Smith of Du Quoin, Ill. and Danny R. (Kim) Smith of Willisville, Ill.; one sister, Eileen Smith Craig of Steeleville, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Nilma Mason Smith of Marissa, Ill.; two grandsons, Nathan Smith of Marissa, Ill. and Andrew (Lori) McBride of DeSoto, Ill.; three granddaughters, Taylor Smith of Marissa, Ill., Jessica McBride of Willisville, Ill. and Breanna Byntar of Du Quoin, Ill.; one great-grandson, Orlando Reed of Willisville, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Shaylin McBride of Willisville; many dear nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Merle (Vera) Smith, Clifford Smith, Mical Smith and James Smith; one sister, Maxine Smith and one brother-in-law, Douglas Craig.
Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Blu Berner officiating. Interment will be in Galum Presbyterian Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.
Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Christian School, Chester, Ill. or the Melvin Smith family.
