Ruth Alice Degler

Ruth Alice Degler, age 91, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 4:35 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin, Ill.

Ruth was born on Jan. 27, 1921 in Du Quoin, Ill., a daughter to Edward and Katie (Plumley) Stanhouse. On July 3, 1940, she married John K. Degler Sr. in Cape Girardeau, Mo. and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1979. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Du Quoin, Ill. Ruth enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo and going to the casinos. She dearly loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky Kent (Sandy) Degler and John Degler Jr., all of Du Quoin, Ill.; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Wayne) Nadler of New Athens, Ill. and Jackie (Dennis) Frech of Du Quoin, Ill.; two sisters, Francis Hawkins of Sparta, Ill. and Cecil Szczeblewski of Du Quoin, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Lester Stone Degler; two brothers, Bill Stanhouse and Edward Stanhouse and four sisters, Lorraine Sisney, Gertrude Braml, Bobbie Engert and Lettie Gregory.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Russell Ragovin officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
