Elizabeth (Wells) Burns

Elizabeth (Wells) Burns, age 94, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 in Des Peres Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Elizabeth was born on May 29, 1918 in Louisville, Ky., a daughter to Wendell and Cecelia (Holden) Wells. In 1942, she married Ralph W. Burns in Bloomington, Ill. and he preceded her in death. Elizabeth was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and was an elementary school teacher in Bloomington, Ill. and Pinckneyville Grade School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and embroidery.

Survivors include her dear friend and caregiver, Mary Posey; two nieces, Beth Wells and Kristy Wells; grandniece, Elizabeth Wells and sister-in-law, Florence Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, John Wells and beloved nephew, Barry Wells.

Graveside services will be held at Tamaroa Cemetery, Tamaroa, Ill. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
