Charles Halfacre

Charles Halfacre, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:32 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Charles had been manager at P.N. Hirsch for many years. He was a member of the Liberty Church in Du Quoin. He was an Army-Air Corp veteran of World War II. He was a Past President of the Du Quoin Business Association and was a Scout Leader for several years.

He was born Oct. 12, 1924 at West Frankfort, Ill., the son of Charles and Lena (Kercheval) Halfacre.

He married Nattella Talford and she preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1974. He then married Beverly Galbraith on May 15, 1984 at Elkville, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, three children - Michael Halfacre and wife Debbie of Pinckneyville, Debra Brown and husband Mark of Du Quoin and David Halfacre of Du Quoin, two step sons - David Green of Carbondale and Bob Green of Olathe, Kans., two sisters - Betty Squario of West Frankfort and Martha Avery of San Marcus, Tex., four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one sister - Marietta Melvin and two brothers - Harry Herrell and Bud Herrell.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Lon McPherson officiating.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery at Orient, Ill.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the Liberty Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
