Obituary for Marion Veath Young

MARION VEATH YOUNG, 87, of Northbrook, Ill., passed away at 8:49 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Highland Park, Ill.

She was born to the late Victor J. and Anna M. (nee: Spitz) Veath on February 8, 1929 in Chester, Ill.

She married Dr. Charles R. Young on June 29, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2012.

Marion Young was a life-long educator. She retired from Deerfield High School in 1986 after many years as a home economics teacher.

She graduated from Chester High School in 1947 and went on to earn her teaching degree from MacMurray College in 1951. She was actively involved in her church, Ascension Lutheran, in Northfield.

She enjoyed playing golf with her husband. Her greatest joy, though, came from her spending time with her grandchildren. In a letter just recently opened from 1996 she shared in part:

"To my family,

Something good came of my illness last December and January and that is a renewed awareness that life is fragile and we must be ready to join our Heavenly Father at any time. Thus I'm writing this letter and feel content that it is here for you.

Before you read any further, remember that I had a very privileged life here on earth. Please find comfort in the fact that God has received me into eternal life just as he did my parents.

......

This could get quite lengthy at this point, but I'll simply say that no grandmother ever could have loved and enjoyed her grandchildren more than I. You are very special, Caitie, Erin, Justin, and Connor.

I pray that you each know how much I have loved you. Until we all meet again -

All my love,

Mom "(ca. 1996)"

Survivors include two children - Chris (Nancy) Young, Northbrook, and Mary (Dave) Otis, Northbrook; Six grandchildren - Caitlin Young, Erin Young, Connor Holleb, Chris Otis, Carly Otis and Juliana Otis; Two nephews - Bruce Witbart and Craig Witbart.
