Obituary for Ella Mae Kirk
Ella Mae Kirk, 81, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 16, 1933, in Chester, Illinois, to Thomas and Ella Shields Korando. She was a 1951 graduate of Chester High School.
She and Kenneth LaMoine Kirk were married November 8, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester, and were members of the parish until the mid-1960's when they moved to Jackson. They had been married 57 years when Kenneth passed away July 9, 2010.
Ella Mae worked 18 years at Procter and Gamble in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1995. She and Kenny enjoyed retirement on their farm in Oak Ridge, and spent many years traveling abroad.
She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson and the Ladies Quilting Club.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Pamela Mae (Christopher) Harris of Oak Ridge, Kimberly Lynn (Lee) Powers of Jackson; two grandsons, Raymond Kirk (Jessica) Powers of Jackson, Ryan Benjamin (Chelsie) Harris of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Kamden and Aubrieé Lou Powers.
Also surviving is a brother, Bernard (Helen) Korando of Chester; a brother-in-law, John (Jean) Kirk of Columbia, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Korando of Chester; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Korando, Patrick Korando Sr., Michael Korando Sr., Kenneth Korando; two sisters, Roseanne Holley, Marie Poenitske; her parents; and mother-in-law, Emma (Gussie) Gretzmacher.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Deacon Walt Biri lead the parish prayers at 7:30 PM, immediately followed by a Rosary led by St. Ann's Sodality.
Funeral mass was held Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 10 AM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, Father John Harth, celebrant.
Burial followed at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
