Glenn E. Rich

Glenn E. Rich, 89, formerly of Carbondale, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Glenn was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Carbondale to Ira Edgar and Mona Merle (Johnson) Rich.

He married Delores Luella Craft on April 29, 1949 in Herrin. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Delores of Du Quoin; three sons, Steve (Connie) Rich of Whitewater, Mo., Tim (Rae Ann) Rich of Hampton, Va. and Terry (Ana) Rich of Laurel, Md.; three daughters, Linda (Joe) Swinford of Du Quoin, Diana (Don) Cain of Branson, Mo. and Sherry (Steve) McInerney of St. Charles, Ill.; a brother, Harold Rich of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Glenn was a letter carrier in Carbondale for 25 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers) and APWU (American Postal Workers Union).

He proudly served in the Air Force from 1951 - 1952. He loved farming and enjoyed working and making beautiful creations with wood. Glenn and his wife were members of the Murdale Baptist Church in Carbondale. He was loved by many and will be missed.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Murdale Baptist Church in Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Interment, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 127, will be held at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro.

Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Murdale Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
