Morris Lee Cook

Morris Lee Cook, 72, of Benton, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 at his residence.

Morris proudly served his country in the United States Army for 21 years. After retiring from the Army, Morris and his wife owned restaurants for 26 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was born Feb. 14, 1942 at Christopher, Ill., the son of Violet (DuFour) Ponder.

He married Janet L. Conner on Aug. 6, 1966 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife - Janet L. (Conner) Cook of Benton, one son - Michael Cook and wife Michelle of Benton, one daughter - Tammy Epplin of Pinckneyville, six grandchildren - Mathew Cook, Chelsea Cook, Mika Cook, Madyson Epplin, Morgan Epplin and Macy Epplin, two brothers - Gary Ponder of California and Dean Ponder of Missouri and two sisters - Gloria Jordan of West Frankfort and Cathy Barclay of Christopher.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Military graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin with the V.F.W. Chaplain officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
