Cecil Szczeblewski
Surrounded by her loving family, Cecil Szczeblewski, age 86, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed peacefully away on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at 5:27 p.m.
Cecil was born Dec. 27, 1927 in Du Quoin, Ill., a daughter to Edward P. and Martha K. "Katie" Stanhouse. On Feb. 22, 1944, she married Joseph "Joe" Szczeblewski in Radom, Ill., and together they shared 67 years of marriage until his passing on Oct. 31, 2011. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. and worked as a homemaker caring for her family. Cecil was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed attending Mass, spending time with her family, dancing and listening to music. She was a kind soul and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include six children, Gretchen Dawson of Mulkeytown, Ill., Jim (Trish) Szczeblewski of Mulkeytown, Ill., Mike (Krista) Szczeblewski of Benton, Ill., Tony Szczeblewski of Rantoul, Ill., Beth (Mike) Styve of Overland Park, Kans. and Nancy Sczczeblewski (Charlie Cross) of Sesser, Ill.; nine grandchildren, David, Tina (John), Marcy (Jason), Chad (Afton), Ashleigh (Tim), Michael, Kyle, Kaitlyn and Skyler; seven great-granchildren, John, William, Matthew, Ryder, Jaycie, Callie and Adlie; one sister, Francis Hawkins of Sparta, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Opal Stanhouse of Du Quoin, Ill.; Virginia Wisnewski and Mildred Fisher both of Tamaroa, Ill. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe; one son, Gary Szczeblewski; one son-in-law, David Dawson; six sisters and two brothers.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Oganda officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Mulkeytown, Ill.
Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill., on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. or the Alzheimer's Association.
