Richard Johnson

Richard Johnson, 66, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:48 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Richard had worked as a electrician for the Freeman Orient # 6 coal mine. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. He was also a member of the UMWof A.

He was born May 25, 1947 at Mt. Vernon, Ill., the son of Lufer and Pearl (Haner) Johnson.

Richard married Norma L. Norris on Oct. 1, 1965 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, daughter- Tammy Johnson-Swisher and husband Dennis of Du Quoin, son- Richard Kurt Johnson and wife Cathy of Du Quoin, two grandchildren- Brieanna Johnson and Kameron Johnson, great granddaughter- Melody Scroggins, sister- Nina Milam of Redlands, Calif., brother- Kenny Johnson of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Diane Drosco, brother- John R. Johnson.

Per Richard's request he was cremated.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin.

Memorials maybe made to the Perry County Humane Society at Du Quoin and will be accepted at the church or at Searby Funeral Home.
