Gerald Laverne George
Gerald Laverne 'Butch' George, 75, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:08 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Butch was a contractor. He was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his buddies at B.J.'s and was an avid Nascar fan.
He was born Sept. 27, 1938 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Arthur William and Emma Marie (Richerson) George.
He is survived by two children - Lori Coker and husband Jim of Du Quoin and Michael William George and wife Dana of St. Louis, Mo., four grandchildren - Brittany Neal of Du Quoin, Jami Harriss of Longmont, Colo., Kody Leehy of Du Quoin and Holly Coker of Du Quoin, two great grandchildren - Delmar Neal and James Harriss and his beloved dog - Coley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Kent Eaton officiating.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro.
Friends may make memorials to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale Third Floor and will be accepted at the funeral home.
