Homer O. Morgan
Homer O. Morgan, 84, of Glen Carbon, Ill., formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:34 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at the Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
Homer had worked as a conductor for Illinois Central Railroad for approximately 43 years. He had been a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin, Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He was a U.S. Air Force and Army veteran and had served during 1949 until 1951. Homer resided in Du Quoin between 1954 and 2008. He was living for the last three years at the assisted living center at Eden Village in Glen Carbon, Ill. to be near his daughter, who lives in Edwardsville, Ill. Homer enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing his harmonica and being with friends.
He was born Feb. 20, 1929 at Elkville, Ill., the son of Willard and Pearl (Armstrong) Morgan.
He married Irene A. Ebers on Jan. 23, 1954 at Murphysboro, Ill., and she preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2000. They were married for 46 years.
He is survived by one daughter - Verna L. (Morgan) Ferguson and one son-in-law - Bryan G. Ferguson of Edwardsville, two grandchildren - James P. Hendricks and Erin S. Scimone and husband Adam, one grand nephew - Richard Bernadini and his wife and two children of Elkville, and three grand nieces - Carol Wyman and Patti Morgan, both of Michigan and Janet Brundage of Jackson, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister - Bernell Bernadini, two brothers - Lee Morgan and Robert Gerbardine.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Mark Buetow officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.
Friends may make memorials to the Bethel Lutheran Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
