Richard A. Rider

Richard A. Rider, 77, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:04 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Fairview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin.

Richard had been a supervisor at the Kerr-McGee Mine in Galatia. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and had served as a drill instructor. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion. Richard was an avid NASCAR fan, drove sprint cars and enjoyed fishing and western movies.

He was born Nov. 11, 1935 at Springfield, Ohio, the son of Van and Jennie (Mueller) Rider.

He married Vickie Sue Tate on Dec. 5, 1980 at Green River, Wyo. and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2002.

He is survived by three children - Tommy Rider of Costa Mesa, Calif., Rachel Rider of Du Quoin and Marti Rider of Dowell, one sister - JoAnn Williamson of Dowell, two brothers - Bob Rider and Joe Rider, both of Christopher, special friend - Mary Ellen Grisley of Johnston City, Ill. and five grandchildren - Cayle Diggins, Kayli Diggins, Ashley Rider, Amber Rider and Corey Rider.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son - Steven Rider, one sister - Mary Lou Margherio and one brother - Corky Rider.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Chaplin Michael Lemay officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Dowell American Legion and Murphysboro American Legion.

Friends may make memorials to Passages Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
