Erin Dale Miller
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Erin Dale Miller, 71, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of North Pole, Ala. and a Du Quoin, Ill. native, passed away at 1:42 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. After raising three children, Erin entered the work force and initially worked in retail jewelry in a department store. She retired as an area sales manager for Lamonts, then worked on a part time basis in the business office for the Fairbanks Daily News Miner.
She was a very active volunteer and supporter for her husband's philanthropic work with numerous non-profit organizations and was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Due to her ongoing and heroic battle with cancer, Erin and her husband, Mitchell, had recently relocated from North Pole, Ala. to Oklahoma City, Okla. Raised as a Methodist, she had attended both Methodist and Baptist churches over the course of her life.
Erin Miller was born Aug. 9, 1940 in Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Oren David and Evalynn Irene (Bonham) McClure. She was born and raised in Du Quoin, Ill. She married Mitchell R. Miller on August 29, 1958 and they were happily married for 53 years.
She is survived by her husband Mitchell Miller of Oklahoma City, Okla., two daughters - Laura Miller McIver of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Diana Lynn Miller, along with a daughter-in-law - Samantha (Seay) Miller Abston of Beloit, Wis., plus three grandchildren - Nicole Erin McIver and James Walter McIver, both of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert Oren Miller of Juneau, Ala. and her two beloved Scotties, Barney and Molly. She was preceded in death by one beloved son whose life was lost to diabetes - Earl Clayton Miller.
Private graveside services were held Saturday morning for family and friends.
Visitation with the family was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, if there is a wish to commemorate her memory, donations can be made to one of the following memorials in her name: George Washington Masonic Memorial Tree Program, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Memorial Donation Program, or Cancer Research Institute Memorial Donation Program and will be accepted at the funeral home.
