Helen H. Martin

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Helen H. Martin, age 101, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at 9:45 p.m. in Fair Acres Nursing Home, Du Quoin, Ill.

Helen was born on March 17, 1910 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a daughter to John and Hattie (Koss) Poiter. On Oct. 8, 1930, she married Harry Leo Martin in Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage on June 16, 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed quilting at Sacred Heart Church and dearly loved her family.

Survivors include a son, Paul Dean (Aleese) Martin of Buffalo, N.Y.; a daughter, Delores "Sis" Whitson of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mildred Martin of Joppa, Md.; six grandchildren, Lisa Whitson, Mark Whitson, Steve Martin, Paul Martin, Adam Martin and Ian Martin; numerous great-grandchildren and many other dear family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, William Martin; a sister, Mary Eisenhauer and seven brothers, Bill Poiter, Ed Poiter, Martin Poiter, John Poiter, Albert Poiter, Frank Poiter and Andrew Poiter.

Funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Nick Junker officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. The rosary was recited at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery or Masses.
