Melita Marie Pflanz
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Melita Marie Pflanz, 103, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:18 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.
Melita attended Du Quoin schools from the third grade through high school. She graduate from the Du Quoin High School in 1926. She worked for the Midwest Ice Cream Company in Du Quoin and when it was bought by a Chicago firm she moved to Chicago with the business. Melita worked in various offices in Chicago for 27 years. She then returned home to Du Quoin to care for her ailing parents. She was a active member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ in Du Quoin where she taught Sunday School and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary.
She was always independent and helping others. Many a shut-in or lonely person would receive a visit or perhaps a favorite soup or food from Melita.
She was born July 2, 1908 at Du Quoin, Ill. the daughter of Charles "Dutch" and Della (Johnson) Pflanz.
She survived by two nieces- Karole Kay Meyer and husband Bob of Salem and Sheila Taylor of LaQuntia, Calif., nine great nieces and nephews, several great great nieces and nephews, close friends- Penny Hoskins and Jeanice Smith, both of Du Quoin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Karl Pflanz.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Rich Luh officiating.
Friends called from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
