Saline 4-H dog and cat show winners announced
SALINE COUNTY - The Saline County 4-H Dog and Cat Show was held on July 17 and July 19.
The location for the Dog Agility Show on Tuesday, July 17, was instructor Cheri White's agility field.
Dog agility participants were divided into categories according to their experience, the size of their dog, and the height of the jumps. County Champions in Dog Agility were: Makayla Miller (Beginner 4 Inch), Adriana Vinyard (Beginner 12 Inch) with a perfect run, Makayla Miller (Graduate Beginner 4 Inch), Dylan Vandenboom (Graduate Beginner 8 Inch), Jessica Tuttle (Graduate Beginner 12 Inch), Sierra Wilson (Advanced Beginner 4 Inch), Haylee Brown (Advanced Beginner 8 Inch), Kaylee Payne (Advanced Beginner 12 Inch) and Whitney Payne (Advanced Beginner 16 Inch) with a perfect run.
On July 19, the remaining 4-H Dog events were held at the Sam Stafford Building. Exhibitors competed in Dog Care, Dog Showmanship and Dog Obedience. Dog Care County Champions were Hannah Haney (Senior Dog Care), Makayla Miller (Intermediate Dog Care), and Adriana Vinyard (Junior Dog Care).
A state fair ribbon for Senior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Hannah Haney, and a State Fair ribbon for Junior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Sierra Wilson.
First time Dog Obedience participants competed in the Pre-Obedience Rally A and experienced dog handlers with brand new dogs competed in the Pre-Obedience Rally B. Rally A County Champion was Hannah Wenzel and Rally B County Champion was Makayla Miller.
Saline County 4-H youth were very successful in the Dog Obedience classes this year. In order to qualify for State Fair, youth must earn at least 170 out of a possible 200 points. In classes where no member earns adequate points, the top scorer receives a County Champion ribbon.
Abigail McGee earned a County Champion ribbon in Beginner Novice I. Haylee Brown qualified for State Fair with a score of 170 and earned a State Fair ribbon in Beginner Novice II. Hannah Haney earned a County Champion ribbon in the Novice class, and Ryan Boulds earned a County Champion ribbon in the Advanced Novice class.
