Dorothy J. Powell

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Heaven received another angel on Thursday evening, Sept. 1, 2011 when Dorothy J. Powell, 92, of Benton, went to be with her husband, Gene, on their 71st wedding anniversary.

Dorothy was born in Corinth, Ill. on March 19, 1919, the daughter of Sherman and Jeanette (Vinson) Carter. She married Eugene R. Powell on Sept. 1, 1940 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2010.

Mrs. Powell is survived by two sons, Michael Powell and wife Deborah and Rodney Powell and wife Linda; daughter, Patti R. Burlison and husband Ronald; six grandchildren, Raymond "Ramie" Burlison and wife Vanessa, Rebecca Powell-Furlow and husband Jason, Adam Powell, Jessica Minton, Seth Powell and Sarah Powell; three great-grandchildren, Noah Minton, Raymond "Ramie" Burlison Jr. and Major Vance Burlison; three sisters, Audra Cox, Jean Battershell and Bobbie Summers; two special nieces, Suzanne Baker and Betty Aiken and several other nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a baby sister, Ruth.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at Morton and Johnson Funeral Home in Benton with Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating. Burial was in the Boner Cemetery in West Frankfort.

Visitation was after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of food or flowers, memorials in Mrs. Powell&#39;s name may be made to a charity of the donor&#39;s choice.
