Lt. Dale Masser
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Retired Illinois State Police Officer, Lt. Dale Masser, 77, of Carmi passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 3:39 p.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born July 2, 1933 in White County, Ill. the son of Lewis and Lura (Newcomb) Masser. Dale married Joyce Leah Barr on May 6, 1954.
Dale retired in 1983 from the Illinois State Police, Deptartment of Professional Standards. He had also served in District 12 and 13. He served in the Illinois National Guard in Korea and was a member of First Christian Church in Carmi. In his retirement years, Dale enjoyed wood working, gardening and traveling.
Dale is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Joyce; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leah and Mark Koester of Teutopolis, Ill. and Joni and Don Gulley of Hays, Kans.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Colleen Masser of Carmi; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Peggy Barr of Cambridge, Ohio and Pamela and Thomas Woelfel of Centralia, Ill.; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Masser of Prescott, Ariz.; five granddaughters, Jennifer (David) Johnson, Amy Koester, Keri Koester, Megan Gulley and Kaitlin Gulley and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Gracelyn and Emma Rose.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Paul Barr.
Funeral Services for Dale Masser, 77, of Carmi were Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Carmi. Burial was in the Herald Cemetery near Carmi.
Friends called Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dale's memory to the Youth for Christ Summer Camp Fund or Bob Thomas Missions in Ghana and will be accepted at the funeral home.
