Alan D. McClurken

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Alan D. McClurken, age 77, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 at 8:36 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin, Ill.

Alan was born on Nov. 15, 1932 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a son to Stanley "Dale" and Esther (Geistdoerfer) McClurken. He proudly served his country and was a veteran of the United States Army. Fifty-four years ago, on Aug. 11, 1956, he married Donna Rose Burns in Elkville Methodist Church, Elkville, Ill. and she survives. He had worked as a coal miner at Inland Steel Coal Company, Sesser, Ill. and owned and operated Alan's Small Engine Repair. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., where he also served as a deacon, taught Sunday school, and was a Training Union Director. He was a Mason, a member of the U.M.W.A., and enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Donna McClurken of Pinckneyville, Ill.; three sons, Alan (Judy) McClurken Jr. of Pinckneyville, Ill., Kent McClurken of Sesser, Ill. and Cory (Nicki) McClurken of Steeleville, Ill.; a daughter, Donna Jane (Greg) Snyder of Thornton, Colo.; a brother, Jon F. (Janet) McClurken of Pinckneyville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Amanda (Alan) Arndt, Shay Snyder, and Jacob Giles McClurken; one great-granddaughter, Addison Arndt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger McClurken.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Tim Bauersachs officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill. Graveside military rites were provided by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504.

Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Masonic rites were held on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Missionary Project.
