Hubert Glen Cox

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Hubert Glen Cox, 89, of Elkville, passed away at 1:26 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 peacefully surrounded by his family at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Hubert was a retired construction laborer. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was a US Army veteran of W.W. II serving as a Staff Sergeant. He served in the European Theater serving in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and Northern France. Decorations and citations he received were the Combat Infantryman Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal and two Overseas Service Bars. He had been a Prisoner of War at the end of the war.

He was born Nov. 28, 1920 at Makanda, Ill. the son of Sherman and Rachael (Craig) Cox.

Hubert married Rose L. Winchester on Oct. 19, 1946 at Murphysboro, Ill. and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2002.

He is survived by a son- Richard Cox and partner Terry Moore of Carbondale, daughter- Jeannine Calhoun and husband Carl of Elkville, two grandchildren- Russell Calhoun of Clearwater, Fla. and Stacie Creston and husband Tom of Elkville, three great grandchildren- Joshua, Madison and Jordan, two brothers- Dean Cox of Carbondale and Lawrence Cox of Makanda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers- Curtis Cox and Otis Cox.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at the Knoff Bend Pentecostal Church at Elkville with Rev. Merle Macke and Bro. Jim Pinson officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Saturday.

Burial was in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro, Ill.

Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.
