Donald Jerome Coleman

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald Jerome Coleman, 80, of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:15 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Don was born Oct. 11, 1929 in Pinckneyville, Ill. the son of Noah (Pete) and Ruth (McGee) Coleman.

He married Gladys (Boswell) Coleman on May 2, 1953 in Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.

He was a member of the Spirit of Life Church in Du Quoin and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1985. He also drove the school bus for the West Bus Service for 3 years in Du Quoin. Don was a US Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion Post #647.

Don loved to sing at his church, the nursing homes and at the Gold Plate. While attending the First Presbyterian Church he had 13 girls in his Sunday School class and sang at the weddings of nine of them.

He is survived by his wife Gladys of Du Quoin; one daughter- Robin Dunn and her husband Allan of Du Quoin; two sons- Scott Coleman and his wife Kathy of Bellevue, Nebraska, Kevin Coleman and his wife Lisa of Du Quoin. Don had six grandchildren: Amber, Holly, Stacy, Shawn, Alex and Noah. Don also had two great grandsons- Patrick and Charles; a brother- Edward T. Coleman and wife Joan of Flora and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother- William Coleman.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Spirit of Life Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Gerald Wright officiating.

Friends called from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Burial was in the Primitive Baptist Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites were conducted by the Du Quoin VFW , Du Quoin American Legion and Navy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
