Reverend Monsignor Harry J. Jerome
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Reverend Monsignor Harry J. Jerome, 74, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:17 a.m., Friday, April 30, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital at Belleville.
Fr. Jerome studied for the priesthood at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, IL and was ordained a Priest of the Diocese of Belleville on May 27, 1961. He had served as a Priest and Pastor in several parishes throughout the Diocese. After studies in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., he was the Judicial Vicar of the Diocese and a Judge in the Diocesan Tribunal for many years. His last assignment was as Pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin before his retirement. He has since resided at the Hincke-Sense Retirement Home for Priests in Belleville, Ill.
He was born Aug. 10, 1935 at Dowell, Ill., the son of Frank and Pauline (Krus) Jerome.
He is survived by one sister - Marcella Jerome of Fairview Heights, Ill. and one brother - Norbert Jerome of Littleton, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother - Gerhardt Jerome, and his little brother - Paul Francis Jerome.
The body of Monsignor Jerome was received at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
Visitation was at the Church on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with The Most Reverend Stanley G. Schlarman, Vicar for Priests, presiding and the Very Reverend John T. Myler, Cathedral Rector, as homilist.
Priests of the Diocese of Belleville celebrated the Funeral Mass.
Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
