Eugene H. Beard

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Eugene H. Beard, 82, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:32 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Eugene had worked as a Civil Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation, retiring after over 25 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and the Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class.

He was born Aug. 31, 1927 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Everette Charles and Gertrude (Peuterbaugh) Beard.

He married Mary June Anderson on Oct. 3, 1948 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 1999.

Eugene is survived by two daughters- Paula Jean Flanigan and husband Bruce of Mt. Vernon and Kay Lynn Adams and husband Gib of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren- Matthew Flanigan, Megan Dillon and husband Brian, Colin Adams, Brock Adams and Bennett Adams; two brothers- Dale Beard of Bonne Terre, Mo., Jim Beard of Raymore, Mo.; two sisters- Karen Walker and Sharon Wernecker, both of Fredericktown, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother- Everette Beard.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gib Adams officiating.

Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
