BASKETBALL: Lady Indians force OT, but fall to A-J

DU QUOIN, IL - The DuQuoin Indians Girls Basketball Team and the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats battled to a 41 point tie at the end of regulation play on Tuesday evening in a home game for the Indians. Anna-Jonesboro won the conference battle in overtime 48-45. DuQuoin's record is now 6-12 overall.

DuQuoin led after the first quarter 12-10. The score went back and forth between the two teams, and Anna-Jonesboro was up 21-19 at the half. DuQuoin led again after three quarters 30-27, and the score was tied at 41 at the end of the fourth quarter. A-J outscored the Indians 7-4 in the overtime.

DuQuoin had three players in double figures. Kelsey Robinson contributed 13 points, Bailie Caldwell also had 13, Taylor King 12, Andrea Morgan 3, Abby Myers 2, and Katrina Whitley 2.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Kim Mixen with 17 points. Brooke Chamness added 9 points, Katie Grant 8, Cara Farris 8, and Balyie Denny 6.

"We had a tremendous effort, " commented DuQuoin Coach Shawn File. We competed on the defensive end. I am so proud of the girls that stepped up, and made the plays. With the beginning of the new year, we have been playing much better basketball. We are taking steps every day to get better. We want to be ready to go when the regional comes up."

The Jr. Varsity Team, coached by Jason James, won their game. This moves their record to 3-6 overall. The final score was 34-18 in DuQuoin's favor. Andrea Morgan had a big night scoring 24 points. Katrina Whitley added 4, Alaina Caldwell 3, Ashanti Warren 2, and Taylor Gates 1.

DuQuoin travels to Benton on Thursday evening, and plays Trico at home on Saturday. The games on Saturday are at 3:30 and 5:00.
