SOFTBALL: Lady Falcons beat up on Agape Christian
The Lady Falcons picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday, beating up Agape Christian 13-1 in five innings behind a 4-RBI day by leadoff hitter Cheyenne Abbadusky, and a strong effort in the pitching circle by Britani Prescott.
"We hit the ball well tonight, and hit it hard," said EHS head softball coach Donette Wheatley. "But defensively we let too many pop flies hit the ground. I'm happy the girls got another win under their belt."
Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Prescott in the bottom of the first inning, and she delivered and RBI by reaching on an error at shortstop. Brooke Whittington and Tori Ehlers followed with singles, Maycee Bowlin grounded to second for an RBI, then Abbadusky tripled to bring in two. When Agape finally got the third out - after a dozen Lady Falcons had come to the plate - EHS was up 8-0.
Abbadusky (2-3, R, 4 RBI, 3B, BB), Prescott (1-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3B), Whittington (1-3, R), Ehlers (3-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B, 3B), Bowlin (1-2, R, 2 RBI, BB), Paige Newfarmer (1-3, 2 R, 3B, HBP), Kaitlin Lively (1-2, 2 R, BB) and Kadie Dunmyer (1-2, R) had hits for Elverado.
"Tori almost hit for the cycle and had another stellar game at the plate," said Wheatley.
Prescott allowed one earned run on five hits. She walked none and struck out seven for her first pitching victory of the season.
"Britani has rebounded well from being sick and was hitting her spots," Wheatley said.
EHS (2-2, 1-1) hosts West Frankfort on Wednesday.
