Du Quoin police shut down active meth making operation: Five arrests follow search for wanted suspect in North Pope Street housing apartment
The search for a person wanted by Du Quoin and Perry County police in a north side Perry County public housing project has led to the arrest of five people in connection with an active methamphetamine making operation.
Du Quoin Police Chief Jamie Ellermeyer said at 12:04 a.m. Thursday Du Quoin police officer Lee Prince and Perry County Sheriff's deputy Jeremy Gothard arrived at a 515 N. Pope Street housing authority apartment.
The suspect was known to have frequented the residence of Brittany N. Bailey, age 21.
The officers spoke with Bailey and a search was subsequently conducted of the unit.
An active methamphetamine lab was discovered during the incident.
The Illinois State Police methamphetamine response team arrived to dismantle the lab.
The Perry County Drug Task Force Arrived and finished the investigation. Five arrests were made. They include:
Brittany Bailey, 21, of Du Quoin was charged with unlawful methamphetamine-related child endangerment and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Clint D. Williams, 30, of Du Quoin was charged with unlawful methamphetamine-related child endangerment, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and aggravated unlawful participation of methamphetamine manufacturing.
Adam L. Melvin, 26, of Du Quoin was charged with aggravated unlawful participation of methamphetamine manufacturing and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Joseph W. Keller, 45, of Du Quoin was charged with aggravated unlawful participation in methamphetamine manufacturing.
William L. Bastable, 22, of Du Quoin, was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Ellermeyer stated that the charges range from a Class IV felony up to Class X felonies.
Ellermeyer said Prince and Gothard executed the search perfectly, sorted through the information and evidence in front of them professionally, and the arrests were the result of their training and ability.
