VOLLEYBALL: DMS riding high heading into Regional
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The DuQuoin Middle School Volleyball Team played the final conference game of the season at home on Monday evening. Their foe was Sparta. The Eighth Grade Team was able to pull off a 2-0 match win over Sparta, but Sparta made the games very close. The game scores were 25-23 and 25-19 in DuQuoin's favor.
Prior to the start of the Eighth Grade Match, the eighth graders and their parents were honored. They are: Amanda Atteberry, daughter of Amy & Kevin Atteberry; Hope Fenton, daughter of Crisey & Tracy Fenton; Carissa Graham, daughter of Gena & David Graham; Tiamera Hamilton, daughter of Jamaal Hamilton & Brittany Hamilton; Jacqueline Harsy and Jessica Harsy, daughters of Launa & Roger Harsy; Dayja Raysby, daughter of Nicole Raysby; Shelby Simmons, daughter of Stephanie Sizemore; Hannah Werner, daughter of Barb & Perry Werner; and Amber Williams, daughter of Julie & T.J. Williams.
Stats for the eighth graders were as follows: Tiamera Hamilton had 1 kills 1 assist, and 1 dig. Amanda Atteberry was 1-3 at the line with 4 kills, 6 digs, and 1 assist. Carissa Graham was 11-12 at the line scoring 8 points with 3 aces, had 2 kills, 11 assists, and 1 dig. Amber Williams was 4-5 at the line scoring 2 points, and had 4 digs. Jacqueline Harsy was 1-1 at the line, scoring 1 point, had 1 kill and 3 digs. Hope Fenton was 1-2 at the line scoring 1 point, had 6 kills and 1 dig. Shelby Simmons was 12-12 at the line scoring 9 points with 3 aces. Alaina Caldwell was 8-8 at the line scoring 4 points with 1 ace, and had 2 digs. Sydney Lewis was 5-6 at the line scoring 1 point with 1 dig. Other Warriors seeing playing time were Dayja Raysby, Jessica Harsy, and Hannah Werner.
Coach Isaac Miller thought his team played really well. "I was really pleased with the way we played tonight. We are really peaking at the right time of year. I am very proud of the eighth graders. All of them were able to get into the match to play tonight. Every year one of our goals is to win a regional and go to State. I think these girls are focused enough to do that."
The eighth grade record is now 17-7-1 and 8-4 in the conference. The team starts regional play on Friday, March 18 at 6:00 in the Trico Regional. They play against West Frankfort. Herrin and Trico play the next game. The championship game is set for Saturday, March 19 at 11:00.
The Seventh Grade Team also won their match 2-0 over Sparta. The game scores were 25-18 and 25-18. The seventh graders finished the season with a 13-4 record overall and 10-2 in the conference.
Individual stats for the seventh grade were: Alaina Caldwell had 2 kills, 1 assist and 4 digs. Sydney Valier was 5-5 at the line scoring 3 points with 1 ace, had 1 kill and 2 digs. Taylor Gates was 2-3 at the line scoring 1 point, and had 2 kills. Sydney Lewis was 7-9 at the line scoring 7 points with 2 aces, had 2 assists, and 4 digs. Harley Dearmond was 4-5 at the line scoring 4 points with 2 aces, had 1 kill and 2 digs. Allyson Morgan was 5-6 at the line scoring 4 points with 2 aces. Brittany Clark was 13-14 at the line scoring 9 points with 2 aces, had 1 assist and 1 dig. Abigail Vancil was 3-3 at the serving line. Emily Born was 1-2 at the line scoring 1 point. Grace Bastien, Carlie Daffron, Madeline Cravens, Timbra Mansfield, and Kristyna Queen also saw playing time for the Warriors. The seventh graders are coached by Staci Davis.
The Sixth Grade Team also finished their season on Monday evening. They beat Sparta 2-1 in their match. At this level, ten minute games are played. DuQuoin won with game scores of 23-12 DuQuoin, 30-25 DuQuoin, and 21-15 Sparta. The sixth graders are coached by Paul Miller.
<u>DMS second at Massac County tournament</u>
DuQuoin Middle School played in the Massac County Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, March 12. DMS played a total of four games that day. DuQuoin played Egyptian first, defeating them 25-11 and 25-10.
DuQuoin took on Harrisburg in the second match winning 25-20 and 25-11. The third game of the day was DuQuoin vs. Creal Springs. DuQuoin won again 2-0 with game scores of 26-24 and 25-18.
DuQuoin played in the championship game against Massac County. Another round of the Miller brothers playing each other. Zac Miller is the Massac County Coach, while his brother Isaac Miller is the DuQuoin Coach. The last time they met in DuQuoin, Isaac was the winner. This time Zac's team was the winner.
Massac County won the match 2-1 with game scores of 25-19 DuQuoin, 25-21 Massac, and 15-8 Massac. Massac County was the tournament champion with DuQuoin finishing second.

Carissa Graham was 34-36 at the line, scoring 15 points, had 3 kills, 35 assists, and 1 dig. Alaina Caldwell was 29-32 at the serving line scoring 21 points with 7 aces, and 4 digs. Hope Fenton was 20-25 at the line, scoring 19 points with 10 aces, had 13 kills, 1 assist and 3 digs. Amber Williams was 20-22 at the line scoring 14 points with 9 aces, and had 7 digs. Tiamera Hamilton had 7 kills and 1 dig. Sydney Lewis was 14-17 at the serving line scoring 9 points with 2 aces, and had 1 dig. Hannah Werner had 5 kills. Jacqueline Harsy was 12-14 at the line scoring 6 points with 2 aces, had 7 kills, 2 assists and 6 digs. Shelby Simmons was 10-11 at the line scoring 7 points with 3 aces.
