Candidates begin filing process for General Primary
MARION - Candidates for public office began the official filing process Monday for the General Primary this March.
Here in Williamson County, terms are expiring for four officeholders - county clerk, treasurer, sheriff and commissioner. Three of the incumbents have already filed for re-election, including Republican Jim Marlo for his commissioner's seat; Republican Amanda Barnes for her clerk's seat and Democrat Bennie Vick for his sheriff's seat.
Republican incumbent Brinson Venable had yet to file for his treasurer's seat as of Tuesdasy afternoon, but Venable said he would seek re-election.
"I intend to file this week," he said. "I've been collecting petitions and getting my paperwork organized."
Several county residents are also vying for open judge seats in the First Judicial Circuit.
Amanda Byassee Gott has filed for the vacant seat of Mark Clarke. The Marion Republican will be opposed by Tyler Edmonds, a Democrat from Anna, pending any additional filings.
John W. Sanders, R-Marion, has filed for the vacant judge's seat of Carolyn Smoot.
Stephen R. Green R-Marion), David W. Lawler (D-Marion) and Phillip G. Palmer, Jr. (D-Marion) have filed for the vacant judge's seat of Phillip Palmer, Sr.
Carey C. Gill (R-Carterville) and Jason A. Olson (D-Marion) have filed for the vacant judge's seat of Randy Moore.
