Chester High School was briefly locked down on Sept. 29 so that Chester Police officers could investigate a report of suspected drug possession.

In a news release from the CPD, Chief Ryan Coffey stated the alleged student in question is a juvenile and the matter was being handled by CHS officials, with assistance from the police department.

CHS students had posted on social media that the incident was a "drug bust."

Chester District 139 Superintendent Rick Goodman was asked why parents/guardians of the students were not notified the school had been locked down.

"Normally a lockdown wouldn't occur, but due to the time of the incident being during a lunch period, it was important to contain the students so the investigation could take place," Goodman said in an email to the Herald Tribune. "The one-call system would not be used in this case because there was no immediate threat to the health or safety of our students or employees."
