Yellow Jacket boys finish fourth at BDC meet
The Chester boys track team performed well at the Black Diamond Conference meet on May 11 at Fairfield, finishing fourth overall.
The host Mules won the meet with 146 points, followed by Hamilton County (94), Johnston City (92), Chester (59) and Carmi-White County (51) to round out the top five.
CHS senior Demontae Martin won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.41 and 23.20, respectively, earning all-conference honors in both events.
"I am very proud of the way the boys competed," said Chester coach Ben Hunter. "I think we are hitting our peak and should have a good showing at sectionals this Friday at Sparta."
Chester's 800-meter relay team of Chris Lang, Jacob Golding, Demontae Martin and Savion Smith also earned BDC All-Conference honors for their efforts in winning the 800 relay with a time of 1:34.35.
Smith was the BDC champ in the high jump (6-02.00) and also earned all-conference honors for his second place finish in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 20-15.5.
Hunter was also very pleased with the third place finish of the 1,600-meter  relay team of Jacob Wingerter, Josh Haberberger, Nick Heffernan, and Clayton Richelman.
That foursome turned in a time of 3:55.56.
Jacob Golding finished fifth in the high jump (5-06.00), while Trent Bierman also took fifth in the 3,200-meter run with his time of 11:27.00.
Joey Reid also earned a point in the 200-meter dash with his sixth place finish and time of 24.66.
"I am very excited that we seem to be doing some of our best work right now at the end of the season heading into the sectional meet," Hunter said. "Many of or distance runners are getting personal-best times and improvement is being seen all around."
