Du Quoin mayor back from sensitive, meaningful talks with Rauner's staff
Mayor Guy Alongi returned from Springfield where he met with the Governor's Office regarding building a better partnership in support of the Du Quoin State Fair. Alongi said that the state and city are still working through some sensitive details and did not disclose any details.
Alongi said that the meeting lasted over an hour and was candid, friendly, and meaningful. He added that, "It is refreshing to know that they understand the needs of the city and the impact some of these events have on our city, especially our police and fire departments. We both want to be and must be partners in this fair to ensure it remains an economic engine for this region and Du Quoin."
Alongi admitted that talks are not transpiring into action as fast as he would like, but wants to give the state time to digest the city's concerns and needs. According to Alongi, the state urged to be judged on their actions as they move forward.
Alongi ended saying, "I do feel we are headed in the right direction to a permanent solution. I do not want to address this again during my term, and we have one chance to get it right. I am confident we will very soon."
