SOFTBALL: Marion routs Du Quoin, 10-1

Marion had a five-run fourth inning thanks in part to three Du Quoin errors, and the Lady Wildcats ran away with Tuesday's softball game against the visiting Lady Indians, 10-1.

Du Quoin had just four hits in the game and did not draw a walk. Defensive mistakes led to a lot of the damage done against Lady Indians' starter Marisa Ferguson, who allowed fourteen hits and struck out five batters.

"I thought Ferguson pitched very well tonight," said DHS head coach Jason James. "We just didn't do much behind her to help. We are pretty much struggling at all aspects of the game right now."

"We will continue to work very hard and get things turned around. It's a long season and I am confident we will do so."

The Lady Indians' only run of the day came in the top of the second inning. Amanda Atteberry singled with one out, was moved to second on a sacrifice by Mackenzie Jackson, then scored on an error.

Atteberry (1-3, R), Jackson (1-1, SAC), Ferguson (1-3) and Amber Williams (1-2) had Du Quoin's hits.

The Lady Indians host Harrisburg on Wednesday.
