A St. Libory man has been captured in St. Clair County after an eight-day manhunt by law enforcement.
Randolph County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jarrod Peters confirmed Wednesday that 31-year-old Jeremy S. Copple was being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
"Tips from the public have tried to help us in locating his whereabouts," Peters said. "We've been actively looking for him since last week.
"We were made aware this morning he was in custody through St. Clair County Sheriff's Office."
According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, Copple was arrested by the Belleville Police Department and booked into the jail at 2:53 a.m. He has two holds - agencies wishing to speak with him - one by BPD and the other by the Randolph County Sheriff's office.
Messages left for BPD Chief William G. Clay III were not immediately returned.
In a Monday news release, the RCSO stated an ongoing drug investigation regarding Copple led to the filing of an arrest warrant on March 13.
Deputies were able to make a recent traffic stop on a black 2008 Dodge Charger containing Copple and during the resulting drug search, Copple - who was seated in the front passenger seat - allegedly jumped into the driver's seat and drove away from law enforcement.
A police chase ensued and was later called off as speeds exceeded 90 mph.
A warrant for aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer had been issued in Randolph County for Copple, with bond set at $50,000.
