Wingerter, Gross named All-Tournament selections

The Murphysboro Sophomore Basketball tournament ended on March 4, but two area players only recently discovered they were named to the competition's all-tournament team.

Steeleville's Owen Gross and Chester's Colin Wingerter earned selections, with Wingerter receiving an honorable mention for his efforts.

Gross scored a combined 77 points in the three games of Steeleville's run to the tournament's consolation semifinals, including a 26-point effort in a 61-51 loss to eventual consolation champion West Frankfort.

Wingerter scored a total of 40 points in the two games Chester played in the tournament, including 19 in a 43-38 loss to the host Red Devils that eliminated the Yellow Jackets from the competition.

Nashville won the tournament for the second year in a row, defeating Breese Central, 52-45, in overtime.
