Four Warriors named first-team all-conference

Four Steeleville players - Lexi Middendorf, Kaylee Wagner, Reid Frederking and Andrew Grafton - were recently named to the Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division's first-team all-conference teams.

Frederking and Grafton helped lead the Warriors to a 20-10 record and their second straight division title, a first in program history. Frederking led the team with 13.5 points-per-game, while Grafton averaged 8.8.

Frederking was also named MVP of the Panther Basketball Classic on Jan. 28, scoring 30 points in a 55-52 win over Webber Township.

Grafton reached the 20-point plateau twice and reached double figures in 10 of Steeleville's 30 games. Both players will next be in action at the Lion's Club All-Star Game at Rend Lake College on March 31.

Gametime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $5.

On the girl's side, Middendorf and Wagner were standouts on an 11-14 Lady Warriors team that lost to division rival New Athens in the semifinals of the Class 1A Marissa Regional and finished third in conference play with a 6-4 record.

Wagner averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while Middendorf averaged 6.7 and 2.7, respectively.

Wagner reached double digits in five of 24 games, with a season-high 16 points in a 61-51 win over Cobden on Nov. 28. Middendorf achieved double-digits in seven games, with a season high of 20 in a win over rival Trico on Jan. 12.
