Du Quoin wins over Pinckneyville 8-0 as Braden Lee goes the distance

Braden Lee scattered five hits as the Du Quoin Indians blanked Pinckneyville 8-0 Monday afternoon at the

Perry County Fairgrounds.

With the win, Du Quoin improved its record to 6-7 overall.

The Tribe won for the first time in five Southern Illinois River-to-River starts..

At 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Indians will play Sparta.

Du Quoin trailed the Bulldogs 4-3 in the fifth when it started to rain , Game two should start by 4:45 at the Ballpark at DHS.

The Panthers fall 2-4 and 5-7.

Lee struck out three and walked just one for Du Quoin, who took a 1-0 in the first.

Cole Hopkins singled and moved to second on a ground out by Brock Bullar.

Ryne O'Rourke then sent Hopkins with another single

Hopkins then sent Kevin Lee and Hank Stewart home with a two-run single to make the score 3-0 in the second.

Lee was hit by a pitch and Stewart singled to get things going.

Hopkins then tripled to start the fourth and scored when the throw back toward the infield eluded everyone.

Du Quoin scored three more times in the fifth. eventually chasing Panther lefty Grant Jausel.

An RBI single by Ashton Smith, a sac fly from Jordan Edwards and single by Stewart made to score 7-0 Indians in the fifth.

In the seventh, Du Quoin scored one more time when Edwards came home on an error.

At the plate, Hopkins was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

O'Rourke went 2-for-4 with an RBI and SLmith was 2-for-4 with in RBI for Du Quoin.

Dalton Day and Lee also scored. Stewart went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Clayton Houghland, Dylan Carns, Jausel, Dustin Engelhardt and Tyler Wright all singled for Pinckneyville.

Jausel took the loss with Hayden Carter and Houghland also throwing.

Tuesday afternoon, the Panthers visit Anna-Jonesboro.
