Luechtefeld bill to benefit veterans' advances

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ A legislative measure concerning veterans' licensing for Department of Natural Resources permits was approved by a Senate panel on Feb. 23 and is being co-sponsored by State Sen. Dave Luechtefeld (R-Okawville).

Senate Bill 384 will allow veterans who are applying for free hunting, fishing and camping permits to mail their applications to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Springfield headquarters. Currently, veterans are required to present the proper qualifications in person at the DNR building.

"The most northern location of the 58th Senate District is Cahokia, 102 miles from Springfield and the most southern is Jonesboro which is over 200 miles from Springfield," Luechtefeld said. "Clearly driving distances for veterans should be taken into consideration. We are in the 'Internet age,' and veterans should be afforded every opportunity for convenience."

Senator Luechtefeld had also previously introduced Senate Bill 3071 on Feb. 8, which contained many of the same provisions.

Senate Bill 384 is currently awaiting consideration before the full Illinois Senate.
