Bids Awarded for Next Phase of PCHS Construction

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville Community High School Board of Education awarded bids on the new building project to Charles Masonry for $86,800 for masonry restoration, Evard Strang for $143,062 for general construction, Von Alt&#39;s for $126,772 for metal studs, gypsum board and ceiling work, Richardt flooring for $68,871 for resilient flooring, Helfrich Painting for $34,924 for painting, Litton Enterprises for $77,260 for plumbing, Rakers Electric for $82,096 for electrical work and agreed to deduct $29,000 from the flooring bid for a moisture barrier.

Bids for bathroom restoration in the gym went to Richardt for $7,103 for floors and Helfrich Painting for $2,164 for painting.

In other business, the board:

voted to rehire all of the tenured staff and the following non-tenured staff for the 2012-13 school year: Heather Wilkin, Sean Patrick, Katie Hickam, Kim Lietz, Todd Thomas, Rita Willms. A motion to re-hire Social Studies teacher and coach Nolan Kellerman failed four to three. Nolan Kellerman is the younger brother of board member Nathan Kellerman.

accepted the resignation of Ag teacher Carrie Koester who is leaving to take a position in Columbia.

agreed to post openings for instructors in Agriculture and Math/Science.

agreed to trade in a 2003 bus for $11,000 on the purchase of a 65-passenger bus for $61,900, bringing the price to $50,900.

amended the 2011-12 school calendar to set the last day as May 7.

set the 2012-13 calendar to begin with teacher institutes on Aug. 30 and 31 with the last day of school on June 4.

again discussed the proposed off-campus lunch policy. Beginning next year, the board is considering closing campus to Freshmen and Sophomores and allowing only Juniors and Seniors in good standing to leave school for lunch. The issue will be discussed at the April meeting.
