It's Not Dowell, It's Do Well
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Village of Dowell has come up with a nifty twist to its name with the establishment of the Do-Well award, which recognizes community pride and beautification initiatives.
The first of the awards was presented in January and the most recent of the artful awards was presented to Jim and Fran Knapp of 407 Madison Street for the month of April.
Mr. Knapp is a retired route driver for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. and the couple has owned their home for the past 38 years. It was completely remodeled 20 years ago and the Knapp's are painstaking in the way they take care of their home and yard on the town's near north side.
The award was established in January by the Dowell board. There is a yard sign in the Knapp's front yard and they received a matching certificate signed by Mayor Dennis Stewart.
Past recipients have included: January--Hector and Georgia Gufierrez 504 Union Avenue; February-William Bagley, 204 Union Avenue and March-Irvin and Celia Hartline of 508 Union Avenue.
Do-Well Award regulations require that you are a Village of Dowell resident; be in good standing with utility payments; property will be judged on neatness, cleanliness, property improvements and design; you can only be eligible one time in 12 months; selection will be made by the Dowell village board; and all village employees are exempt.
The mayor will present the winner with the "Do-Well" certificate and a "Do-Well" yard sign. The winner will also be awarded one FREE miner's park rental (subject to availability on the Dowell Miners Park calendar); and the winner will also be entered in an annual drawing for a free gift card.
Please contact the village hall at 568-1513 for more information and ask for Regina Jansen.
