Pinckneyville High School Board Adopts Budget, Approves New Contract with Teachers

Following a budget hearing, the board adopted the 2012-13 budget which was placed on file for public inspection at a special meeting Aug. 23.

The budget predicts a $498,916 deficit in the education fund and shortfalls in debt service ($519), IMRF/Social Security ($12,513) and the tort fund ($92,160).

According to the budget, the district will have cash on hand in all funds beginning July 1, 2013, meaning that any deficits can be covered by cash reserves.

The budget will be amended throughout the year as more information on state aid payments and maintenance costs for the new building become available.

In other business, the board:

• approved a one-year employment contract with the Pinckneyville High School Education Association. The new contract adds $500 to the base salary for teachers.

• discussed the need for a facilities use policy for the new school. The policy will be developed then presented to the board for a first reading at the October meeting.

• granted permission for the FFA Chapter to stay overnight at the national convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The convention will be held Oct. 24 - 27. The board also agreed to pay the hotel and registration costs for the PCHS Ag Communications Team which will compete for the national title at the convention.

• discussed the status of the health insurance bids. Superintendent Keith Hagene will meet with representatives from Baugher Financial Services to discuss the bids prior to the next meeting.

• discussed paying the Illinois Association of School. Boards to make an online verision of the district's policy manual available to the public. The board is waiting on the cost of the service before making a decision.
