Perryville man's death ruled suicide
<span style="font-weight: 400;">An 18-year-old Perryville man was found dead Tuesday evening at the old Menard Medium Security Unit parking lot, located off of Bridge Bypass Road west of Rebecca Lane in Chester.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">According to Randolph County Deputy Coroner Jonathan Barbour, the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">"The death does not appear to be suspicious," he said. "It is being investigated by the coroner's office."</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The man's name is not being released at this time pending notification of family members. According to Chester Police Sgt. Bobby Helmers, law enforcement received the call at 5:25 p.m. and cleared the scene around 7:30 p.m.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Local media members responding to the scene on a tip witnessed a white sedan being towed away, followed by Chester Police and Illinois Department of Corrections vehicles.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Helmers told the Herald Tribune the CPD's role in the investigation has closed. The Herald Tribune will have more information as it becomes available.</span>
