Coffey's Creations opens in Chester

Area residents now have another option for custom embroidery, as Coffey’s Creations opened its door on Monday on Swanwick Street across from the Herald Tribune’s office.

Proprietor Stacey Coffey is originally from Marissa and got her start six years ago working out of her basement while helping at her grandmother’s store, “The Clara June Shop.”

She, her husband, Clint, and the couple’s children, Jacob, Colton and Peyton, reside in Ellis Grove. They are not related to any of the local Coffey family members.

Clara June Jetter was an avid quilter, crocheter and talented seamstress. Together with her husband of 55 years, Ira “Junior” Jetter, Clara June also co-owned a Texaco station, bakery, Lenzburg Chuckwagon, Jetter Auto Sales, Jetter Carpet and Cabinetry and other interests.

“I started doing stuff for them and customers would ask ‘Who made this?’” Coffey said. “And now, it’s come to this.”

Coffey’s Creations specializes in embroidery for school apparel, vinyl shirts, towels, baby gifts and wedding and graduation items, among other creations.

“I started doing more of the girl’s stuff and the football stuff and it just got too much for the basement,” Coffey said.

Coffey noted she does several craft shows a year, including Christmas on the River, Perryville Mayfest and others. Her hours, at least initially, are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Additional hours are available by request. The business will have a grand opening on Jan. 25.

“We’re trying to keep everything local,” said Coffey, who added her prices are “very competitive.” “It’s all being done in-house and we’re trying to keep it local and give back to the community.”
