Three injured in Shawneetown Trail wreck

Three people were injured, and one needed extraction, after a two-vehicle accident last Friday at the intersection of Palestine Road and Shawneetown Trail north of Chester.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office crash report, a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser - driven by 22-year-old Matilda Wittenborn of Campbell Hill - was traveling north on Palestine Road when witnesses reported it disregarded the stop sign at the intersection with Shawneetown Trail.

The PT Cruiser then proceeded into the intersection, where it was struck by a 2011 Buick Enclave driven by 46-year-old Malissa Montoya, of Benton.

Both vehicles came to rest in a yard on the northeast side of the intersection. Wittenborn was extricated from the wreckage by Chester firefighters and she, Montoya and a passenger in Wittenborn’s vehicle - 18-year-old Lillian Wittenborn, also of Campbell Hill - were all transported to Memorial Hospital of Chester with injuries.

A representative from the hospital confirmed to the Herald Tribune that the three victims were all treated and released.
