Randolph County State's Attorney case updates

Yvette E. Olson:

On October 27, 45-year-old Yvette E. Olson, of Tilden, pleaded guilty to the offense of obstructing justice (Class 4 felony) before the Honorable Gene Gross and was sentenced to two years of probation, with a condition to seek alcohol/substance abuse counseling.

During the plea, Olson admitted to providing false information to a Randolph County Sheriff's deputy regarding the whereabouts of an individual with an outstanding arrest warrant on July 27 while in Tilden.

"We say it all of the time, when approached by law enforcement, just let them do their job and do not obstruct or lie to them," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "If you do so, it makes things worse for all involved.

"If you disagree with law enforcement, just don't do anything, but when you actively attempt and thwart the efforts of law enforcement, there are ramifications."

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office handled the investigation in this matter.

Karl R. Tieman:

On October 28, 27-year-old Karl R. Tieman, of Sparta, pleaded guilty to the offense of unlawful possession of methamphetamine (Class 2 felony) before Judge Gene Gross.

The parties agreed to present a joint recommendation of a four-year sentence to the Department of Corrections, and a sentencing hearing has been scheduled on December 1.

During the plea, Tieman admitted to possessing more than 5 grams, but less than 15 grams, of methamphetamine located during a traffic stop in Sparta on April 6.

A charge of unlawful possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine was dismissed.

"Mr. Tieman had methamphetamine which was in the 'production' phase, which would have resulted in the approximate weight he pleaded guilty to,"said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "However, the entire liquid quantity tested positive and he was originally charged with more than 100, but less than 400 grams.

"The liquid was not in usable form and would have been substantially less than 100 grams when the product was finished. Therefore, we agreed to reduce the pending count and dismissed the count relating to a small amount of alleged methamphetamine in powder (usable) form located during the stop."

The Sparta Police Department, with assistance of the Illinois State Police Meth Response Team, handled the investigation in this matter.

Kenneth L. Greene:

On October 28, 28-year-old Kenneth L. Greene, of Chester, pleaded guilty to the offense of unlawful possession of controlled substance (Class 4 felony) before Judge Gene Gross.

No agreement was reached as to the sentence and the matter has been set for a sentencing hearing on December 12.

During the plea, Greene admitted to possessing less than 15 grams of heroin located during the execution of a search warrant in Chester on July 7.

"Mr. Greene was on parole from the Department of Corrections at the time of the offense and we are not offering probation due to that fact," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "However, we will see what the Court does on December 12."

The Illinois Department of Corrections and Chester Police Department handled the investigation.

Michael W. Spence:

On October 28, 64-year-old Michael W. Spence, of Tilden, pleaded guilty to the offense of failure to register as a sex offender (Class 3 felony) before Judge Gene Gross.

No agreement has been reached as to the sentence and the matter has been set for a sentencing hearing on December 12.

During the plea, Spence admitted to failing to register as a sex offender on June 13, while residing in Tilden.

"We will wait for the pre-sentence report to verify our argument, but my information indicates Mr. Spence has violated the registration act on three prior occasions in Madison County and received probation," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "If this information bears out, I will be seeking a commitment to the Department of Corrections."

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office handled the investigation in this matter.

Rachel M. Rednour:

On November 2, 30-year-old Rachel M. Rednour, of Coulterville, pleaded guilty to the offense of theft over $500 (Class 3 felony) before the Honorable Richard A. Brown.

No agreement was reached as to the sentence and this matter has been set for a sentencing hearing on December 19.

During the plea, Rednour admitted to exerting unauthorized control over the property of another, with a value exceeding $500, on August 20 in rural Coulterville.

"I did not offer probation as Ms. Rednour has a prior felony history, including prior sentences to the Department of Corrections," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "It is typically our policy to not offer probation when a defendant has a prior history of this nature." The Randolph County Sheriff's Office handled the investigation in this matter.

Brent A. Lee:

On November 7, 35-year-old Brent A. Lee, of Chester, was sentenced to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following a sentencing hearing held before Judge Richard A. Brown.

Lee previously admitted to possessing more than 15 grams, but less than 100 grams, of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, located during a traffic stop in Chester on July 30.

During the sentencing hearing, the State requested a sentence of 15 years, while the Defendant requested the minimum sentence of six years.

"We are pleased with the sentence in this matter," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "While Mr. Lee has had prior felony convictions, his pre-sentence report did not reveal any prior commitments to the Department of Corrections.

"Even with time credits, 10 years is a long sentence and one would think would deter those peddling meth in this area to either move or quit what they are doing."

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Chester Police Department, handled the investigation in this matter.

Robert A. Condor:

On November 10, 57-year-old Robert A. Condor, of Red Bud, pleaded guilty to the offense of criminal trespass to a residence (Class A misdemeanor) before Judge Gene Gross and was sentenced to two years of conditional discharge with conditions to stay away from the victim for the duration of the sentence.

A Class 4 felony charge of stalking was dismissed pursuant to the plea. During the plea, Condor pleaded guilty to entering a residence in Red Bud without permission on August 29.

"I spoke with the victim and was given the green light to proceed with this disposition," said Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker. "Mr. Condor had allegedly engaged in several instances of harassing behavior involving the victim in the summer of 2016.

"Since the criminal charges were filed, and a civil order was granted to limit contact with the victim, there have been no problems. We are hopeful the Defendant learned his lesson and will leave the victim alone."

The Red Bud Police Department handled the investigation.
